Elly Sharrock’s pole journey started in 2014 where she trained at PoleFit Crewe before studying at Lancaster University where she joined the pole society under Inversion Pole Fitness. She started competing just over a year later in 2015: some of her titles include 3rd place in the Inter-University Pole Dancing Championships ’15 and Best Entertainer in Roses, an annual sports varsity between Lancaster and York. She was also the overall winner of the advanced category, making her the champion of LU Pole Fitness Society’s first ever point-scoring Roses in 2016. She qualified at semi-pro level for Miss Pole Dance UK (the UK national championship) the same year. She joined the Inversion team the following September after receiving training from Lucy Webster and gaining an Anatomy and Physiology Foundations for Pole and Aerial qualification from Spin City. She currently teaches Higher Intermediate and Advanced pole fitness and flexibility classes, focussing on back and shoulders. Her favourite style of pole is theatrical – choreographing more contemporary routines which have an element of story to them – but also enjoys the exotic side of pole, specialising in ‘Russian style’ pole and floorwork classes (in heels!). She is also self-taught in various circus disciplines including contortion, hand balancing and flow/fire arts and loves to incorporate these into routines. She has had the privilege of receiving workshops from UKPPC Professional Champion Leah Rose whilst abroad with Sportsvest (the UK students sports tour), and master classes from champion pole dancers such as Jess Leanne Norris, Bendy Kate and Caroline Arundel. She has also attended workshops at different studios including Polefire in Manchester and Trixters in Bradford. She aspires to work towards expanding her teaching to other aerial and dance arts such as Aerial Hoop, Polesilks and Burlesque. You can find her on Facebook under the stage name Eris Varga, or on Instagram @erisvargapole.
